THE FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Despite the name, most of our builds are actually made from aluminium. It’s lightweight, strong, and perfect for touring setups where weight matters. We chose the name Man of Steel as a nod to our roots and our commitment to strength and durability - no matter the material.

Where it makes sense structurally, we still use steel, but the majority of our canopies and trays are aluminium.

  • As custom as you like. Everything we build is made to order, so if you’ve got a vision (or even just a rough idea), we’ll help bring it to life. You’ll sit down with a fabricator, designer, and auto electrician to make sure every part suits your lifestyle.

  • Build times can vary depending on the complexity of your setup and current bookings, but most builds take between 4 to 8 weeks once your scheduled start date arrives. We'll give you a clearer timeframe during your consultation.

  • Yes - that’s the whole point. Every build is designed from scratch around your lifestyle, vehicle, and touring needs. If you can dream it, we can probably build it.

  • We work on utes, trucks and pretty much anything you can put a tray on. We’ve had plenty of customers tell us, “I contacted all these companies and no one could build anything for my 4WD.” That’s where we come in. If others have said no, there’s a good chance we’ll find a way.

  • No problem at all. If you know your canopy is staying on full-time, we can build it without a separate floor underneath, saving weight and lowering your centre of gravity. In these cases, we also remove the headboard to maximise usable space and reduce unnecessary bulk. It’s all part of tailoring the build to suit your exact needs.

  • Definitely. We partner with All Tech Auto Electrical – real auto electricians, not accessory fitters - to design and install fully customised 12/24/48V systems that do exactly what you need (and nothing you don’t).

  • Yes. We regularly work with interstate clients. Everything from your initial consultation to final pick-up can be arranged remotely, and we’ll keep you in the loop with updates along the way.

  • Not at all. That’s what our design process is for. You’ll meet with our designer, fabricator and auto electrician to talk through your needs, and we’ll help you figure out what will work best.

  • Yes. We think beyond just the tray & canopy - our goal is to help you create a complete touring or work setup that makes sense as a whole. From bullbars and lighting to wheels, communication and power - we’ve got you covered.

  • Because everything is custom, pricing varies depending on your setup. We’ll provide a detailed quote after your consultation, with full transparency on pricing and options. No surprises.

  • Sure - while it’s usually more cost-effective to get everything done in one go, we can always add extras later. Some clients start with just a tray or canopy and return down the track to expand their setup.

  • Yes - we welcome visits to our workshop. We often have customer vehicles in various stages of the build process, so you can get a feel for the craftsmanship and options in real life. We also have a dedicated display vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, showcasing many of the features and finishes we offer.

  • While we don’t offer in-house finance, we’re happy to work with your preferred lender and provide any documentation they need.

  • Both Man of Steel Fabrication and All Tech Auto Electrical stand behind every job we do with a full lifetime warranty on workmanship. We take pride in the quality we deliver - and we back it for life.

  • As of August 2025, we no longer offer custom internal fit-outs for canopies made by other manufacturers. We’ve chosen to focus our time and resources on delivering complete, fully integrated builds using our own tray and canopy systems to ensure the highest quality and best customer experience.

  • Yes. Our canopies can be custom-built to match the headboard of your existing tray, whether it’s factory or from another brand. We’ll make sure it fits properly and looks like it was always meant to be there.
